Spiny Oyster is often used by Native American artists to make inlays or cabochon setting in fine jewelry. It comes from the shell of the bivalve mollusk, Spondylus varius. The scientific name, "Spondylus" in latin, it means "spines on its back." It is also known as Thorny Oyster, Spiny Oyster, Spondylus, and Spondylid. The soft and juicy interior of Spondylus is edible, so the Spiny Oyster's valued for its hard, outer shell as well as its interior meat. Despite its name contain "oyster", the Spiny Oyster is much more closer relatit ve of scallop tham oyster.

The most commonly used Spondylus shell colors include orange, reds, and purples and may include distinct striations and color variations. One also finds pink, red, brown, yellow, orange, and white on the market. The Yellow Spiny Oyster's especially rare.

Our Philosophy:
We choose every piece of jewelry based on the value of the stone. Unlike most of the Turquoise on the market, the stone has to be high quality (not stabilized, not color treated and not reconstituted).
We also love jewelry with unique character and great craftsmanship. What this means is that you are getting jewelry that is a showstopper and not to mention a great investment.
